Homecoming “Performance of Classes”
On November 8, I will be performing on the Kennedy Theatre Main Stage in the UH Homecoming “Performance of Classes.” I will be performing a solo White Snake song with Jinghu (sp?) accompaniment. There will be many other interesting and entertaining performance bits from White Snake, Judith of Shimoda, Etta Jenks, and The Homecoming, as well as three dance pieces out of the department of dance. The show starts at 2:00. I could be wrong, but I think it’s free, so please come and join in on the fun! -EGD
For Oct. and Nov.
Jingju training progresses and rehearsals abound as our enormous cast careens toward February with spears and horse-hair whisks in hand. In other news, the Moon-viewing concert was very well attended and graced by a beautiful moon, and in other-other news my dance group was not selected for Fall Footholds, though this is all well and good because one can only make it to so many rehearsals in a day.
I suppose the biggest news is that Kinlea Keeper might actually (finally!) be released this month, and I look forward to more than my close friends having the opportunity to share in one of the many worlds of my daydreams. Please keep your eyes out at drolleriepress.com.
Consider yourself updated ^_^ -EGD
Up and Coming
A few snippet/dates for news and upcoming performances:
1) I have been cast to play the most complicated and sophisticated role imaginable in the Jingju (Beijing Opera) “White Snake,” which will premier in English on the Kennedy Theatre mainstage in February. I’m in some seriously intensive and demanding training for this (12-16 hours a week, not including the stuff I do at home in preparation). I’ve been at it for three weeks already, and I will be at it for the next five months (though I imagine by the later parts, what with rehearsal on top of it all, I’ll be investing a significantly larger amount of time).
2) The Hawaii Gagaku Society Moon Viewing Concert is on Oct. 2, starting at 7:30 PM in the little outdoor staging area of UHM’s music building. It’s free, everyone is welcome, and I will be playing the Ryuteki (flute) with the ensemble.
3) Today, my dance group is auditioning for the Fall Footholds dance concert. Wish us luck… or broken legs, or whatever your superstition-persuasion might dictate ^_^.
Organization?
I find myself wondering if it is possible for one person to be an organization. I am very organized, I’ll admit, but it doesn’t take a lot of work to get me all in one place at the same time for meetings and the like.
I bring this up because, lo and behold, worldsofwords.net was snatched up in the couple hours between its lapse at the old site and my attempt to re-buy it for the new, and so I bought the org instead. Tada! Now I need to go and change my website info everywhere I have it posted. >_<. Pardon the dust -EGD
Wheeeee!
Gosh, I like having a blog on the front page! I can put news here. Right now, my big news is mostly that Kinlea Keeper will purportedly be published this month. I don’t know when. Dates are a bit… urm… fluid at Drollerie Press. But heck, now I have a blog right here up front, and I can keep the world posted. Otherwise, I guess the other big news is the Jingju (Beijing Opera) audition is on Friday. I’m preparing the wackiest material for that one! Regardless, I know it’s going to be fun, and I know I’ll be cast in *some* capacity. The master actors from China are to decide what that capacity will actually be on Friday, though, and I’ll admit I’m excited.
With that, I need to get back to work managing the month-end printouts and program schedule here at campus ITS. Never a dull moment! -EGD
The Big Move
A big “Hello!” to all the lovely people who wander by. I just spent the last four hours moving all of this info off of what (in my personal opinion) is a truly awful webhosting site (for those of you who wish to avoid extremely slow and shoddy customer service, it was Website Builder Pro/Website Builder Free. I am thoroughly unimpressed). I have had multiple other websites on WordPress, though, and I like their service record, so I figured that I’d let my account at websitebuilderfree lapse when my payment term is up tomorrow (and no, it was not “free”). Wheee! I might not even get my old domain name, but I’m going to try. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the newly moved site, whoever you are, and I hope you have a lovely day ^_^. -EGD
